Minnesota Timberwolves Jerseys – Every Player, Every Era, Every Number

The Minnesota Timberwolves have been part of the NBA since 1989, when Minnesota received an expansion franchise. The team was officially named the Timberwolves in 1986 after a statewide "Name the Team" contest, and it has used the name Minnesota Timberwolves throughout its entire NBA history.

The Timberwolves have won 0 NBA Championships. Although Minnesota has produced several memorable teams, franchise legends and deep playoff runs, the Timberwolves have not yet captured an NBA championship.

One of the most important eras in franchise history came in the early 2000s, when Kevin Garnett led Minnesota to eight consecutive playoff appearances and the franchise's first appearance in the Western Conference Finals in 2004. Garnett won the NBA MVP Award following the 2003-04 season and remains the Timberwolves' all-time leader in points, rebounds, assists, blocks, steals and numerous other statistical categories.

Later generations of Timberwolves basketball produced stars and fan favorites such as Kevin Love, Karl-Anthony Towns, Anthony Edwards and many others. From the earliest years of the franchise to today's teams, countless players have helped shape the history of Minnesota basketball.

Retired Number

The Minnesota Timberwolves have officially retired one player jersey number:

  • #2 – Malik Sealy

Malik Sealy played for the Timberwolves during the 1999-2000 season. Following his death in a traffic accident in May 2000, the Timberwolves retired his No. 2 jersey later that year. He remains the only Timberwolves player whose jersey number has been officially retired as of September 2026.

Upcoming Retired Number – Kevin Garnett

The Timberwolves have announced that Kevin Garnett's No. 21 will be officially retired and raised to the rafters of Target Center on February 28, 2027. Garnett is the most iconic player in franchise history and will become the second Timberwolves player to have his jersey officially retired. Until that ceremony takes place, No. 21 is best described as a scheduled retirement rather than a currently retired number.

Garnett spent most of his NBA career with Minnesota, transforming the franchise into a perennial playoff contender and becoming the first Timberwolves player to win the NBA MVP Award. He finished his Timberwolves career as the franchise's all-time leader in points, rebounds, assists, steals, blocks, games played and many other statistical categories.

From the franchise's first seasons in 1989, through the Kevin Garnett era, the teams led by Kevin Love and Karl-Anthony Towns, and the modern generation featuring Anthony Edwards, countless players have helped write the history of the Timberwolves.

Every player has a story, and no player should ever be forgotten.
