Detroit Pistons Jerseys – Every Player, Every Era, Every Number

The Detroit Pistons are one of the NBA's most historic franchises, with a history that goes back to 1937. The franchise began in Fort Wayne, Indiana, as the Fort Wayne Zollner Pistons, named after founder and owner Fred Zollner. The team later became known as the Fort Wayne Pistons before moving to Detroit in 1957, where it became the Detroit Pistons.

The Pistons have won 3 NBA Championships, capturing the NBA title in 1989, 1990, and 2004. Detroit's first two championships came during the legendary "Bad Boys" era, when Isiah Thomas, Joe Dumars, Bill Laimbeer, Dennis Rodman, Vinnie Johnson and their teammates established one of the toughest and most successful teams of the late 1980s and early 1990s.

The franchise also won 2 NBL Championships before joining the NBA, winning back-to-back titles in 1944 and 1945 as the Fort Wayne Pistons. These championships are part of the franchise's long history that predates the modern NBA.

Detroit's third NBA championship came in 2004, when the Pistons defeated the Los Angeles Lakers 4-1 in the NBA Finals. Led by Chauncey Billups, Ben Wallace, Richard Hamilton, Tayshaun Prince and Rasheed Wallace, Detroit won the championship with a celebrated team-first style and one of the NBA's strongest defensive identities.

Retired Numbers

The Detroit Pistons have officially retired the jersey numbers of ten players whose contributions left a permanent mark on the franchise:

  • #1 – Chauncey Billups
  • #3 – Ben Wallace
  • #4 – Joe Dumars
  • #10 – Dennis Rodman
  • #11 – Isiah Thomas
  • #15 – Vinnie Johnson
  • #16 – Bob Lanier
  • #21 – Dave Bing
  • #32 – Richard Hamilton
  • #40 – Bill Laimbeer

These retired numbers represent multiple generations of Pistons basketball. Dave Bing and Bob Lanier were among Detroit's early franchise stars, while Isiah Thomas, Joe Dumars, Bill Laimbeer, Dennis Rodman and Vinnie Johnson became central figures in the two championship teams of the late 1980s and early 1990s. Chauncey Billups, Ben Wallace and Richard Hamilton later became the core of the 2004 championship team.

Other Honored Pistons Figures

The Pistons have also honored important non-player figures whose contributions helped shape the franchise. Legendary head coach Chuck Daly is honored with #2, representing his role in leading Detroit to back-to-back NBA championships in 1989 and 1990. Former owner William Davidson and longtime general manager Jack McCloskey are also honored by the organization for their contributions to Pistons history.

From the early Fort Wayne Zollner Pistons and Fort Wayne Pistons, through generations of Detroit stars, the franchise has been shaped by countless players. Legends such as Dave Bing, Bob Lanier, Isiah Thomas, Joe Dumars, Dennis Rodman, Grant Hill, Ben Wallace, Chauncey Billups and Richard Hamilton each represent an important chapter of Pistons history.

Every player has a story, and no player should ever be forgotten.

This collection celebrates the complete history of the Detroit Pistons franchise, from its early years in Fort Wayne to its championship eras in Detroit and the modern NBA. From Hall of Fame legends and NBA champions to All-Stars, role players, fan favorites and players whose contributions may only be remembered by longtime Pistons fans, every era deserves to be remembered.

Whether you are searching for the jersey of an NBA champion, an NBL champion, a Hall of Fame legend, a franchise icon, an All-Star, a fan favorite, a role player, or a player whose time with the Pistons has largely been forgotten, you can find his Detroit Pistons jersey here.

We believe that every player who wore the Pistons uniform became part of the franchise's story. The biggest stars may receive the most attention, but a team's history is built by everyone who wore the jersey.

Every number. Every era. Every player. Never forgotten.
