Steve Hawes is a former professional basketball player who played for several teams in the NBA. He was born on December 4, 1950, in Washington and attended the University of Washington, where he played college basketball. After college, Hawes was selected by the Cleveland Cavaliers in the first round of the 1974 NBA draft. He played for the Cavaliers, the Seattle SuperSonics, the Portland Trail Blazers, and the Los Angeles Lakers during his NBA career. Hawes was known for his rebounding and shot-blocking ability, and he averaged 7.3 points and 5.5 rebounds per game over his career. After retiring from professional basketball, Hawes worked as a real estate developer and was involved in community service projects.
