Gary Melchionni is a former professional basketball player who played for several teams in the NBA and overseas. He was born on September 24, 1952, in Brooklyn, New York, and attended Duke University, where he played college basketball. After college, Melchionni was selected by the Atlanta Hawks in the second round of the 1974 NBA draft. He played for the Hawks, the Kansas City Kings, and the Phoenix Suns during his NBA career. Melchionni also played internationally in Italy and France. He was known for his shooting ability and was part of the Duke team that won the NCAA championship in 1972. After retiring from professional basketball, Melchionni worked in the financial industry.
