Mike James was born on June 23, 1975, in Amityville, New York. He grew up playing basketball and was a standout player in high school. James attended Duquesne University, where he played college basketball for four seasons. After college, he went undrafted in the 1998 NBA Draft but eventually earned a roster spot with the Miami Heat. James played for several teams throughout his NBA career, including the Toronto Raptors, Houston Rockets, and Dallas Mavericks. He was known for his scoring ability and tenacious defense, and he was a valuable role player on several playoff teams. After retiring from the NBA, James became a high school basketball coach in Texas.
