*Joe Holup played for Detroit Pistons team in 1958-1959
Pistons #9 Joe Holup was a professional basketball player from the United States. Holup was born on October 2, 1934, in Coal Township, Pennsylvania. He played college basketball at George Washington University, where he led the team in scoring in all three of his seasons. In 1956, Holup was selected by the Syracuse Nationals in the NBA draft, and he played for the team until 1959. Holup then played for the Detroit Pistons for two seasons, from 1959 to 1961. He was known for his rebounding and defense, and he was named to the NBA All-Defensive Second Team in 1960. After retiring from basketball, Holup became a dentist in Maryland, where he practiced for many years. He passed away on November 17, 2017.
