This iconic number is synonymous with Hall of Fame guard David Thompson, one of the defining stars of the franchise's early history. Thompson wore #33 throughout his Denver career from 1975 through 1982, after becoming the first overall pick in both the 1975 ABA Draft and NBA Draft. He earned NBA Rookie of the Year honors, made three NBA All-Star appearances as a Nugget, and scored a franchise-record 73 points against the Detroit Pistons on April 9, 1978. Thompson was inducted into the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame in 1996, and the Nuggets officially retired his #33 on November 2, 1992, permanently honoring one of the greatest players in franchise history.
