Willie Green is a retired American professional basketball player who played for several NBA teams throughout his career, including the Philadelphia 76ers, New Orleans Pelicans, and Orlando Magic. He was born in Detroit, Michigan in 1981 and played college basketball at the University of Detroit Mercy. Green was selected by the Seattle SuperSonics in the second round of the 2003 NBA draft but was traded to the Philadelphia 76ers on draft night. He played for the 76ers for seven seasons, where he became known for his scoring ability and perimeter shooting. He then played for the New Orleans Pelicans for one season before joining the Orlando Magic in 2014, where he finished his career. During his 12-year NBA career, Green played in a total of 985 games, averaging 8.9 points, 1.9 rebounds, and 1.6 assists per game. He was known for his leadership and work ethic, serving as a mentor to many of his younger teammates throughout his career. After retiring from basketball, Green transitioned to coaching, serving as an assistant coach for the Golden State Warriors and now currently the head coach for the New Orleans Pelicans.
