Pat Riley was born on March 20, 1945, in Rome, New York. He attended the University of Kentucky, where he played college basketball for the Wildcats. Riley was selected by the San Diego Rockets in the first round of the 1967 NBA draft. He played for the Rockets for one season before being traded to the Los Angeles Lakers. Riley played for the Lakers for four seasons before retiring from basketball in 1976. He later became a coach and led the Lakers to four NBA championships during the 1980s. Riley has also coached the New York Knicks and the Miami Heat, and he is currently the president of the Heat.
