Red Davis was an American basketball player born on February 20, 1921, in New York City. He played college basketball at St. John's University, where he led the team to the 1944 NCAA Championship. He then played for the Harlem Yankees of the American Basketball League (ABL) before joining the Rochester Royals of the National Basketball League (NBL) in 1947. In 1949, Davis joined the newly formed Basketball Association of America (BAA), which merged with the NBL to form the National Basketball Association (NBA) in 1949. Davis played for the Rochester Royals for two seasons before joining the Syracuse Nationals in 1951. He played for the Nationals for four seasons before retiring in 1955. Davis was known for his scoring ability and was an excellent free-throw shooter.
