Mel Counts was a center who played in the NBA from 1964 to 1976. He was drafted by the Boston Celtics with the 1st overall pick in the 1964 NBA draft, and he played his first six seasons with the Celtics. During his time with the Celtics, he won two NBA championships (1965, 1966) and played alongside legendary players such as Bill Russell, John Havlicek, and Sam Jones. After leaving the Celtics, he played for the Baltimore Bullets, Phoenix Suns, and Los Angeles Lakers before retiring in 1976. In his NBA career, he played in a total of 787 games, averaging 6.8 points and 4.7 rebounds per game.
