Elmore Smith was a professional basketball player who played center position in the National Basketball Association (NBA) from 1971 to 1979. He was drafted by the Buffalo Braves as the first overall pick in the 1971 NBA draft. Smith was a prolific shot-blocker and rebounder, leading the league in both categories during the 1973-74 season. He played for several teams in the NBA, including the Milwaukee Bucks, Los Angeles Lakers, and Cleveland Cavaliers. In his NBA career, Smith averaged 13.4 points, 12.4 rebounds, and 3.3 blocks per game. After retiring from basketball, he worked as a coach and a teacher.
