Perry Young was born on December 19, 1957, in Inverness, Mississippi. He attended the University of Southern Mississippi, where he played college basketball for the Golden Eagles. Young was selected by the Boston Celtics in the third round of the 1980 NBA draft. He played for the Celtics for two seasons before being traded to the Chicago Bulls. Young also played for the Houston Rockets and the San Antonio Spurs during his NBA career. After retiring from basketball, Young worked as a coach and scout for various teams.
