Golden State Warriors Jerseys – Every Player, Every Era, Every Number

The Golden State Warriors are one of the most historic and successful franchises in NBA history. The franchise was founded in 1946 as the Philadelphia Warriors. In 1962, the team moved to the Bay Area and became the San Francisco Warriors. In 1971, the franchise adopted the name Golden State Warriors, which it has used ever since.

The Warriors have won 7 NBA Championships, with titles in 1947, 1956, 1975, 2015, 2017, 2018, and 2022. The first two championships came during the Philadelphia era, while the remaining five were won after the franchise moved west. The Warriors' most recent championship came in 2022.

The franchise has been home to some of the greatest players in basketball history. Joe Fulks, Paul Arizin, Neil Johnston, Wilt Chamberlain, Rick Barry, Nate Thurmond, Chris Mullin, Stephen Curry and many other players have each played an important role in the history of the Warriors.

Retired Numbers

The Golden State Warriors have officially retired the jersey numbers of seven players whose contributions left a permanent mark on the franchise:

  • #9 – Andre Iguodala
  • #13 – Wilt Chamberlain
  • #14 – Tom Meschery
  • #16 – Alvin Attles
  • #17 – Chris Mullin
  • #24 – Rick Barry
  • #42 – Nate Thurmond

These retired numbers represent many different eras of Warriors basketball. Wilt Chamberlain became one of the greatest players in NBA history while playing for the Philadelphia and San Francisco Warriors. Rick Barry led Golden State to the 1975 NBA Championship, while Chris Mullin became one of the defining stars of the Run TMC era. Andre Iguodala was a key contributor to four Warriors championship teams and won the 2015 NBA Finals MVP Award.

Alvin Attles also holds a unique place in Warriors history. He spent his entire playing career with the franchise, later became its head coach and general manager, and remained associated with the organization for more than six decades.

From the early Philadelphia Warriors championship teams, through the San Francisco Warriors era, and into the modern Golden State Warriors dynasty, countless players have helped build this franchise. The history includes legendary stars, championship heroes, role players and fan favorites from every generation.
