Lochmann played college basketball at Texas A&M University, where he was a standout player. He was then drafted by the Syracuse Nationals in the third round of the 1961 NBA draft. Lochmann was a power forward during his career, known for his rebounding and his defense. He played for several NBA teams during his career, including the Syracuse Nationals, St. Louis Hawks, and San Francisco Warriors. He averaged 3.9 points and 3.6 rebounds per game over his NBA career.
